Solved Export Outlook 2010 Exchange content from one computer to another?

Hello folks,

I know with pop3 account it's quite easy: export everything to .PST and import with new computer. Is something like this possible with Exchange server accounts?

Last time I tried (importing PST into Outlook exchange account) import went ok, all emails were there, calendar notes, tasks... but the moment I was online, laptop started to sync everything from scratch - resulting in duplicate emails.

Reason why I want to do this is to avoid long time waiting for sync everything. In my case (PST file created was 7GB), I need to leave laptop overnight, sometimes 18-20 hours to sync all emails (as I live in EU and our company emails are at Exchange server in US). Internet speed is ok I guess (8MB per second), but I'm losing almost 2 days to sync everything.

That's the main reason I'm pushed back re-installing laptop sometimes.

Is there a way to export all emails to HDD (PST or OST file maybe) and then import everything into fresh version of Outlook without side effects (sync and double emails)?

Update:

NOT an easy task!

I have copied .ost file from old computer to new one (into correct location). However starting Outlook gives me following message:

Outlook is using an old copy of your Offline Folder File (.ost) Exit Outlook and Delete the .ost file, and restart Outlook. A new file will be automatically created the next time you initiate a send/receive.

This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid! Have no idea how to make .ost file work with new computer

Ideas?

Hi miki69,

The process of manuually importing your Outlook's .pst to an Exchange email account is similar to POP3, I have success on doing this process.

or....For a few computers, if you are an Exchange or Network Admin, you may try this neat command from your EMS not from the EMC. I use the EMS for a lot of things very handy. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691363(EXCHG.80).aspx

I'm not Admin, I'm just a local user with Exchange account. Our Admin is in US.

Are you part of your IT Dept? These type of configurations are only for IT Staff or Network Admins.

unfortunately not, just a regular user. Have no access to Admin privileges, if fact when I have asked our admin what to do about this, answer was "just let it sync".

So, there is no way to do this as a "regular" user?

If I import PST file, all mails are there, but then Outlook start syncing and I end up with duplicate mails (plus sync time).

If I copy OST file from other laptop, all mails are there, but Outlook gives me message to delete OST file.

Seems like whichever way I go, I hit wall.

This is really upto your Network manager to sort out. It's supposed to sync each time you connect but it's only supposed to update the changes and not sync from the start. You will have a local copy of the pst/ost on your machine which should sync to the pst/ost on the exchange server. But it should take just a few minutes to update and not hours.

I agree, you should contact and get helped from your Exchange/Network Admin and they should be able to fix this remotely. You might get in trouble though if you're trying to fix it yourself and make things worst rather than resolving it.

My current laptop is doing exactly that: syncing only "differences" from the last time I was online.
But new laptop - I cannot make it work without full sync (from the scratch), due to problems with PST/OST I've described above.

He's the only one that would be able to assist you. I am a Network Admin myself and I won't/don't let our employees play around with their computers, it could get worst.

Unlike you and other folks here willing to help and assist people with problems, our IT guy is always doing what's easiest for him.

So bottom line, what I want to do is possible, just he needs to allow it as Amin (click some settings or whatever)?

BREAKTHROUGH:
I made it work! Solution was to let old laptop sync all Outlook emails (wait to get message All folders are up to date), shut it down, copy .OST to new computer and start Outlook on new computer.

Please note that this method is NOT good if you want to continue using Outlook on both laptops, as as soon you start Outlook on one laptop, on other you'll get message you're using old copy of .OST file.

So this method is good only if you want to copy .OST file to new laptop and continue using it ONLY on new one. If you want to use it on both machines you need to sync from scratch on one.
