External Hard Disk Self Ejects

Hi,
I have Windows 7 Professional 64Bit installed on a 250GB internal hard drive. I also have a 750 GB secondary drive installed in the system. When I connect an external hard drive to the computer and try to transfer some files (in this case a Windows 7 SDK DVD iso), the external hard drive self ejects and the transfer gets interrupted. The very next second the hard drive comes back on. I have made sure that it is not the external hard drive at fault as the same issue occurs with my flash drive and also my friend's external hard drive (with different files.) I usually did not care and retry it, but recently I have been loosing files when the hard drive ejects itself and it has started to get annoying. Sometimes the file just dose not transfer no matter how many times I try. All that happens is the hard drive gets disconnected and connected again till I just let it be.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The 250 GB hard drive (Primary) is by Segate which I bought from Newegg in 2007. Where as the 750 GB is by Samsung (Spinpoint F1) bought in 2008. The external hard drive is a 1 TB Western Digital Green from early this year (in an external enclosure). I never had problems with the RC version of Windows 7 while transferring files.

Hi

I have the exact same problem with my 500GB 2.5" WD Scorpio Blue. The disk sits in a Chieftec Black Box USB 3.0 enclosure.

Did you ever find a solution?

Thanks
Tobias

Unfortunately, the only solution that fixed this issue was a complete clean re-installation of Windows 7. But I believe it could also be because of MB drivers, but I did not check it and just reinstalled Windows. I have not faced a similar problem yet with the same setup. Hope it was some help. :D

Hmm. It is only a few weeks since i formated and installed Win7 the last time, and I really don't want to do it again now. I'll just have to continue my search for a solution I think (: thanks though.

I had this same problem and couldnt find a solution. Replace your harddrive usb cable because it might be faulty I did this and it never ejected itself again. Please pass on this info to others as it is a common problem.
