Extremley slow startup, multiple programs do not respond

So after the most recent update, the windows startup has been incredibly slow, and programs like malwarebytes and microsoft word constantly freeze up and stop responding.

I've attached a CBS file, after running sfc /verifyonly

I don't know what to do and could really use the help, thanks in advance.

I would use a restore point to before the updates and stop update from downloading more updates until you say so.

Let us know if your Restore Points solve it, then install Updates singly until you find the one which is the problem and post it back in our Updates forum and/or Windows Update email tech support.

Stop Unwanted startup programs:

Start > Run > write msconfig > Click on StartUp tab
Deselect the programs you want to stop

Uninstall the programs that are not responding. Use a system utility tools to fix registry errors.

To the OP, BE WARNED. Registry cleaning programs such as TuneUp Utilities can often to more harm than good. Cleaning the registry could result in an unbootable system or BSoD's. The only program I trust to touch my registry is CCleaner but be sure to make a backup of the registry before cleaning.

Okay thanks for the advice guys, I used a restore point to before the update happened, and I downloaded CCleaner, cleaned some non-registry files and honestly don't see what removing unnecessary registry files would do to fix the unresponsive programs. I also cleaned up the start-up bloatware.

However, all of this didn't really do much, my computer definitely starts up faster, but everything except Mozilla Firefox is just failing all over the place. Even windows explorer constantly crashes and needs to be restarted.

I'm thinking of just doing a complete system restore, but before I do I would like to get some more advice, are there any other options?

I would try removing System Updates that were installed just before the problem(s) occurred. I know you used a restore point, but I would still check the System Updates list, which can be done as follows;

Control Panel> Programs> Uninstall a Program> View Installed Updates -in the upper right column.

Uninstall any update in question.

Microsoft updates is NOT your problem.

Keep you system current. Failure to do so is the cause of many, many problems. Those updates are there for very good and very sound problems. Many people seem to have trouble drawing correct associations between cause and effect. In other words, a computer problem shows up. Microsoft is blamed. What a pile of nonsense. I have never had any problems caused by microsoft software. I've had problems but none caused by microsoft updates.

Now let's get your system running.

Since you evidently know how to run the System File Checker, then use this command:
SFC /SCANNOW

Here's the entire writeup and afterwards please upload the sfcdetails.txt file.

System File Checker places results in:
%windir%\logs\cbs

My preference is to empty the abovementioned folder BEFORE I run SFC.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Then:
Ø Type EXIT to return
Ø RESTART your computer
Ø Run sfc /scannow again

If you do not see:

Notice that you have run sfc and restarted your computer up to three times.

Ø If all did not go well, you can use

Removing updates is a trouble shooting tool, so to speak, at least in my case, to see if a system may be adversely affected by one of them. I did not suggest against installing updates, but for testing purposes try removal and see if there may be a cause and effect. If so, then search for the reason the system is being negatively impacted by the update. Afterwards, it is very simple to re-install the update(s).

Hope this helps clear up my suggestion about uninstalling updates.
