Hi, my hd is getting ready to fail .That's an epic story I wont bore you with.
I though I made a compatible Knoppix disk with which to copy my files off the HD. It keeps looking for something in the USB which I didn't make. Anyway, it refuses to work.
Can someoinne point me to a bootable USB program that works with 64 bit?
Windows is bootable but it is extremely SLOW. It took an entire week to run Check Disk and that failed to fix anything. It did report many bad clusters and "System File Volume On Disk Is Corrupt". The pc is under warranty and I am sick of troubleshooting. It's a 2 tb drive and I have 300 gigs of files to copy. If I do it in Windows it will take at least a month at the rate it's functioning
Help with copy program appreciated.

Hello cookiebun mate take a look at this it will run in Linux based OS and well it is self explanatory if it doesn't make sense or is not what you want just say.
BOOTABLE UBUNTU
Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.
