Family Pack Returns in time for the Anniversary of Windows 7

All summer long we’ve given you some great reasons to purchase a new PC and make the move to Windows 7, an operating system loved by a whopping 94% of folks who use it! Here’s one more: starting October 3 in the U.S., Windows 7 Family Pack will be available for purchase at participating retailers and online at the Microsoft Store. Purchasing the Windows 7 Family Pack gives you three upgrade licenses of Windows 7 Home Premium for the low price of $149.99. To take advantage of Family Pack, you’ll need a PC running a genuine copy of either Windows Vista or Windows XP that is capable of running Windows 7. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor can tell you which features and editions of Windows 7 will run on your computer(s).

For those of you who don’t live in the U.S., Family Pack may be coming your way too. It goes on sale in Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia and many other markets on or after Oct. 22 (Windows 7’s 1 year anniversary!)

According to IDC’s Consumerscape 360 data, there are 2.1 PCs per household in the U.S., but, as we all know, networking isn’t easy. Windows 7 has built in features – like HomeGroup- that make it easy and quick to get all of your home PCs connected and sharing files, music, photos and printers.

Should be a deciding factor to entice many multiple PC homes to get on board.

I'm sure this will bring in some sales but I believe the typical user has no desire to upgrade their computer's OS and the only time they will move to a new OS is when they buy a new computer.

This will certainly bring in some sales...but why in the world do they not just continuously offer this deal. There are lots who don't buy simply due to cost and wanting to do a couple of machines, and this Family Pack deal is a very good way to accomplish that.

If you're interested in the Family Pack, I suggest planning on an October 3 purchase (in the U.S.). It sold out in six weeks last year.

Windows 7 Family Pack to make a comeback in October

Last December, when Microsoft dropped its Windows 7 Family Pack promotion just before Christmas, I thought it might return. I predicted Microsoft might do an about-face and reintroduce it.

I thought that might happen in a couple of months. It actually took close to a year for the Family Pack to come back — and will happen right after the back-to-school PC buying rush is over.

As Microsoft officials noted on September 1 on the Windows Experience blog, starting October 3 in the U.S., the Family Pack will be available via select retailers and online at the Microsoft Store for $149.99. (That’s the same price Microsoft charged for it last year.) Under terms of the deal, buyers will get three copies of Windows 7 Home Premium. Customers in Canada, UK, Germany, France, Australia and other markets will be able to buy the Windows 7 Family Pack on or after October 22, the one-year anniversary of the launch of Windows 7.

Definitely too late. I think that most people who wanted it have already bought it and businesses will not be interested. Others that were on the fence probably won't care about the 3 pc license.

What I want to know is where-oh-where is the 3 pc license for Pro version since Microsoft chose to require it to take full advantage of the Windows Home Server.
Where is the RDP for people with home pc's and WHS, nowhere to be found which once again proves that Microsoft marketing is a day late and a few dollars short. These are the same people who decided that Vista gets the same end date as Win7, go figure.

Looking forward to Win9 coming out. Thinking about skipping 8 as a protest to the high handed treatment of the loyal Vista/Win7 consumer.

Pay attention Microsoft......WE ARE NOT YOUR PIGGY BANK TO DIP INTO ANY TIME YOUR PROFIT MARGIN SLIPS. Your stock price track record is not that stellar.
