I've seen some posts here from clued-in memebers that version Firefox 61 (still in beta at number 12) is now stable.

This is not my experience with it.

What does this message mean, do we think ?

Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

That appears randomly now on some specific websites that are reliable, not virused and I have used for years. Sometimes repeated attempts to log into these sites works, sometimes not, sometimes closing and opening Firefox works, sometimes not. Sometimes opening Firefox produces this rubbish when previously it was working properly. Other browsers do not have this issue. Reporting this to Mozilla elicits the useless response that the website must be malicious - RUBBISH !!

My machine is not virused - 3 separate antivirus programmes say so. I strongly suspect that Mozilla has taken security to the point of panic. If so, it makes Firefox useless.

For the beta version I suggest that you use the mozilla support forum. That would be best so that they call tell you if what you are experiencing is a known issue and if not report it to the developers. Get community support | Contributors Help

Also keep in mind that by using a beta version you are subjecting yourself to potential stability issues.

Thank you for the reply, I guess.

The reason I mentioned that the Firefox version in question is in beta is because I *know* it is under testing, yet as my post said, some cluey members here had commented that it become stable in the latest iterations, so I tried it again. Not only this forum, but quite a few, sometimes supply answers to comments/questions that assume statements of the obvious are so insightful. They're not.

The list of earlier tutorials here contain much valuable information. So the forum remains valuable.

It had seemed to me that a question on a common browser would not be out of place in the browser/mail thread set. Clearly I was wrong. Hence I have marked the thread as solved.
