Solved Firefox does not open

I am sure this will seem like another dumb question, but I beg your patience. Up until three days ago, I was able to use FF 37 fine. Then when I clicked on the icon to open it, nothing happened. Restarted. Didn't help. Thought I'd uninstall/reinstall, but couldn't do that as I was told to close Firefox before proceeding. There is no way to open it or close it. It is not listed in task manager, either.

I know it's not a highly thought-of browser, but I live at the shallow end of the pool, and I'd like to fix it as I am familiar with it. Thanks.

Look for parent.lock in your Firefox profile; if it is there, delete it, as it keeps Fx from restarting. It is supposed to be removed upon closing Fx, but the process does fail occasionally

Well, "refresh Firefox" didn't open up anything. Same as if I'd clicked on the defunct icon. So now I'll see about that profile folder.

OK, then. "Parent.lock" did the trick. Oddly, I do not need to protect my computer from my dad.
Thanks for the help. I will save the instructions in case I have this problem again. No way I will remember how to do it!
