I had a problem with internet access about a week ago and after check two computer, modem and router settings I called the ISP.
They did something at there end and it worked for about a day.
Called them again and went through the routine with them again. They came to the conclusion that it was somewhere in their system and would have a tech check things out.
About a hour after that conversation my internet worked as it should. I was happy.
Then I started getting problems with updating MSE and Malwarebytes in my normal fashion.
Doing a lot of hunting and pecking I found this little goodie left by my ISP.
Radial Point Service Point.
Then I checked my other computer that was off while Windstream was doing their thing trying to fix the problem. No Radial Point Service Point.
I gave Windstream a call and talked to a tech, nice guy.
He told me he never heard of such a program. I believed him and still do.
I asked him to Google it and he did and was really puzzled because he was never informed of such things.
So I removed said program from the one computer I was having problems with and MSE and Malwarebytes both update as they should.

You did miss it but it was Windstream.
It seem like many ISP use that servied. (RPSP)
What Windstream and RPSP don't understand is what some one has to go through to sort out the problem. It took me a couple of days off and on looking at things to find the problem.
It might not bother most people.
I do my updates manually and it wouldn't let me but the updates would work if I changed the setting to auto update Windows Updates, MSE, and Malwarebytes. Sounds strange.
So those that already do auto updates would never know the programs was installed.

Windstream DSL gets a bad rap from some people I know North of where I live but I think it's because of the infrastructure wires are nested into. After they set up a new line from the road poles to the clubhouse I set up a business account for a wifi point and the phoney little green router does it's thing n/p. Now, keeping the power on during winter is another story.
It doesn't sound like you would, but did you by any chance use Windstream's in-house security program?
From reading your thread I found that Verizon Fios (Vz) uses a Verizon Internet Security suite, it's a knockoff from Radialpoint:
Verizon Servicepoint is an application used by the Verizon Internet Security Suite services to deliver up-to-date information on security issues to subscribers, to ensure that the software or updates required for services subscriptions is delivered and ready to use, and to allow Verizon Online to communicate with subscribers regarding Verizon Online services.
When I had Vz installed I told them that I didn't want to use any of their security services. I checked through my machine and didn't find any VerizonServicepoint.exe files or the ones from Radialpoint on this list either; SystemLookup - Radialpoint Servicepoint.exe - O23 List. Looks like Virgin Com/Media, Rogers, Bell, and TelUs use it also.
Scroll down about half way to "Our Clients" to check the logos: Radialpoint. Your Windstream is there plus the others I mentioned earlier.
I'm a little miffed though, Vz's not listed!

Never install any software from your internet company for that reason

andrew I didn't know they installed the program while they were trying to trouble shoot the problem I was having with access to the internet. Things had changed on my computer so I went looking for the reason and that is what I found. The Windstream programs is gone and things are still working as they should.
