Solved Freeze playing Minecraft, Skyrim, and other video games. BCCode 116

Alright, so after reinstalling drivers for my Nvidia Geforce GTX 570, updating Java, updating windows completely, I am still at a loss as to how to go about fixing this problem.

When playing anything graphics-intensive (Minecraft, Skyrim, or any video game) I will get about 4 minutes of gameplay, and then the screen will freeze while the audio sounds like it is grinding to a halt. Only after rebooting in safemode, where windows gives me a error screen that contains this message:

Afterwards I'm able to reboot my PC normally.

I've used multiple hardware monitoring programs to make sure my system is not overheating when this happens.

Update the following drivers. The drivers may already be the latest, so if you cannot find an update, do not worry too much about it. To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.

1. Click Start Menu
2. Right Click My Computer/Computer
3. Click Manage
4. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
5. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
6. Right click the device
7. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
8. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
9. Restart your computer
10. Install the latest driver for the device once Windows starts.

1. Login as an adminstrative user.
2. Click Start Menu
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Hardware and Sound
5. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices

11. Install the latest driver for the device once Windows starts.

Please remove any CD/DVD virtualization software, such as Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% (if you have both installed, remove both), as they use drivers called sptd.sys and dtsoftbus01,sys that are known to cause BSODs. Use add/remove programs to remove the software. After removing the software, use the sptd.sys uninstaller to remove sptd.sys from the system.

I prefer TotalMounter as my CD/DVD virtualization software as it allows me to burn images to a virtual CD/DVD if I just want an ISO file instead of a disc, and it is free.

Many use MagicISO - Convert BIN to ISO, Create, Edit, Burn, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter/extractor/editor as well, which is also free.

After following these steps, I've resolved my problem:

I removed all of Nvidia software using the installer .exe for the latest GeForce drivers

I rebooted in safe-mode, and used Driver Sweeper to remove Nvidia Display drivers

I rebooted normally, reinstalled my drivers, rebooted again, and now everything is fine.

Thought I would post my solution to a similar problem.
I was getting the BSOD while playing Skyrim. After about 10 minutes of play the game would freeze, the Blue Screen would pop up, and the computer would restart.
Checking the dump file using BlueScreenView revealed that the drivers ntoskrnl.exe and nvlddmkm.sys were causing the problems. However, as most of you have probably discovered, this could be all sorts of things.
First I did a clean reinstall of my Nvidia video drivers.
Then I bought a new video card, the GTX550 Ti. Not a big deal, since I wanted to upgrade anyway.
I ran memtest86 for 8 hours with no errors. I switched my RAM to new slots.
I tried several of the workarounds mentioned in various posts, such as copying the nvlddmkm.sy_ file from the Nvidia drivers folder to replace the nvlddmkm.sys file in System32.

But I had a sneaking suspicion that this was hardware related, since I had made no changes to my system and had been playing Skyrim for 2 months without issue. So I ordered new RAM, the exact make and model that I was currently using.

It came yesterday, I switched out the RAM, and now I have had zero issues for 24 hours. I really put a load on my system too, running Skyrim at the highest settings for about two hours (yay, I get to play again!), and then streaming a movie in HD. Completely stable.

I know this might not help everyone, but for me, it was bad RAM. The RAM I replaced, I guess because its been about year and half since I bought it, was now only $30 for 4G. So I considered it a no-brainer investment. If it wasn't bad RAM, I had 8G.
