I have Win7 Ultimate and just did a bunch of Windows updates 20mins ago and once back to Desktop my Gadgets are gone. I can't right click Desktop and open the Gadget window and going through Control panel doesn't open it either. I've checked Windows features and Gadgets are still enabled and are still set as visible on desktop. I've disabled and re-enabled Gadgets and have rebooted 3 times and they are still gone :(

I feel naked without my gadgets.

Hiyya Dredj you might try system restore and then do those updates again in small amounts and check the gadgets afterwards once the gadgets disappear you probably have found the update/s that might be causing it.

I seemed to have the same problem... the gadgets had gone from the desktop and I couldn't display the RightMouse > Gadgets window (nothing happened). RightMouse > View > "Show desktop gadgets" was still enabled. However, unchecking this option and selecting "Show desktop gadgets" again magically resolved this problem for me. The gadgets suddenly reappeared and I could now access the Gadgets window again!

I thought at first that maybe it was to do with the fact that Microsoft have discontinued Windows Gadgets for security reasons?!

Welcome to Seven Forums whitespace. Sometimes Windows just does things, lol. MS has not forced us to abandon gadgets, you have to choose to do so. I still use several. Living life on the edge :D

Thanks to both Dredj, for the insight, and to Brink for the batch file!

That worked for me too. My gadgets had disappeared, and couldn't activate or access any gadgets related menu. Had to do RightMouse > View > "Hide desktop gadgets" and then RightMouse > View > "Show desktop gadgets" after restart, and now all is OK again.
