Generic error while adding 360 as extnender

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me out here...

I'm using 7 RC build 7100, and an Xbox 360.

I tried adding my Xbox to Media Center as an extender.

I got the code from the xbox, put it in the pc on media center, and the xbox then said it was downloading something.... It finished as far as I know and went to the screen that says go to xbox.com/pcsetup, well media center on the pc went to the next page where it is supposed to configure the extender, and it froze. I restarted the computer and tried again. Now the xbox is displayed as an extender, but it says it is not configured. If I select it it asks me to put in the code, I get the code from the xbox and the pc goes to the next screen for a few seconds, and then a new one, Configuration Error, an error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this extender.

I've searched but I cannot find anything that helps... I've looked for a certificate but there is none. I don't see how to remove the xbox from media center completely to start over, and I can't make it add it. I'm only using windows firewall, and allowed all the media center services to go. Not sure what to try next, it doesn't really provide me with any information.

you can remove the computer from the xbox 360 in the console settings page
from there i would just restart the whole process make sure to click next on the xbox before you put the code into the pc and start

TripOG, thanks for the suggestion. On the console settings page I don't see an option for that, on the system settings page I see Computer, but I don't see how to remove it... Sorry for being dense

yeah its system settings / computer / there it lists like windows media center pc and you can disconnect from there, if theres nothing there your not connected to anything and you should be able to set it up

Ahh ok thanks, yes I see it in there, but disconnect is not an option, the only option not greyed out is configure, which just takes me back to the screen with the code, and if I carry on, it ends up with that error again...

Thanks again though, I guess I'll just use media player to stream media like I did on XP.

Xbox 360 Windows Media Center Extender Configuration

I experienced this same problem, and the following fixed it for me (please note am running Windows 7). Essentially, you need to enable media sharing. Go to Control Panel. Select Network and Internet. Select Network Sharing Center. Select Choose Homegroup and Sharing Options. Under the heading 'Share media with devices', go into 'Choose media sharing options'. Locate your xbox 360 in the box and ensure that sharing is 'Allowed'. If it isn't (for some reason mine had become 'Blocked'), change this to 'Allowed'. Click OK. Tick 'Stream my pictures, music, and videos to all devices on my network' just to be sure. Save changes. Ret-try the extender connection process.
