Hey guys so i got a 780 GTX from my friend for cheap to give my computer a little bit of a performance boost from my older card which is a AMD Radeon HD6950.
Now my Radeon used 2 6pin PCI-E connects but the 780 power connector shapes comes look to be a 6 pin and a 8 pin connector. Looking at the cables that came with my power supply (silverstone strider 80 plus silver 850W (SilverStone Technology Co., Ltd.INTRODUCTION:ST85F-P)) i am not 100% sure on what cables to use. I think where it says 2 x 8/6-Pin PCIE connector(550mm)in the connectors section refers to a 6+2 PCIE cable.
can anyone confirm what cable i need to use and include a relevant picture?

Hi,
Yep that's it an 8 pin power plug is usually already split on one end so you can use just the 6 pin or the extra 2 to make an 8 pin.

ThrashZone is correct there is also adapters that should of came with the GPU as well if you only have the GPU itself i understand but you can use the Method ThrashZone just mentioned or see if you got the Adapters in the box
I used to have a GTX780 Windforce version that thing kicked A**
Here's one for my evga psu 8 pin to the psu and 6+2 which I use all 8 on the gpu with 2 of them
Some only have a 6 pin to the psu and rob or pigtail the other 2 off the other wires = cheap ones. View attachment 374155

Whoa loads of replies real quick, im pretty sure i have a 6+2 so i will use that. I saw on some forums people disliked using adapters for some reason but they wouldnt explain. Anyway he just gave me the card and the screws that came with air cooling (he had a water block on it that had to be removed) Just hope my PSU has a 8 pin slot on it, pretty sure it does.
mines an asus direct CU II the one i have

Yup just gotta find that damn box and hope i still got those cables. Wouldnt it make sense to call the cable a 6/8 though instead of a 8/6 i mean just seems to make more sense to me lol
