Graphical errors while installing Win7x64 on Intel Sata3 port with SSD

Hello,

I got graphical errors when installing Win 7 home premium x64 sp1 on my new PC.

Specs:

OS: Win7 Home premium x64 sp1
Mobo: Gigabyte gax79-ud3 and G1 assassin 2
CPU: Intel i7 3820
Ram: Corsair 4x4gb ddr3 1600mhz
GPU: Asus nvidia GTX570
PSU: corsair 750 gold

I've Installed the latest f12a bios and cleaned the ssd with Diskpart. The SSD has the latest firmware.

I have used the following setups:

Intel Sata3 port 0-1 with AHCI = graphical error while installing windows.

Intel Sata3 port 0-1 with IDE = no problems

Marvel Sata3 port 0-1 with AHCI = no problems

Marvel Sata3 port 0-1 with IDE = no problems

It seems that the problem is with a SSD on the Intel Sata3 0-1 port in AHCI mode.

The same problem occurs on both motherboards. I've already replaced every part except for my CPU and PSU.

Does anyone have any idea?

In this case if you want to use the Intel controller then install in IDE mode. This is actually recommended by many SSD makers to avoid install problems. You are only losing hot-plugging abilities which you likely don't need anyway.

Otherwise use the Marvel controller with AHCI.

What Display driver is the installer providing? What driver does Windows Update provide that is newer when you run it and check optional Updates?

I have been thinking about your situation to see if I could come up with any reasonable observations.

It appears, when you use the SATA 6G port, the horizontal sync on your video is lost. From the block diagrams of your system, it looks like the Marvel controller is on the PCIe bus, but the Intel one is not. But it may be some resource is being shared or some timing operation is being disturbed.

I see adjustments in the bios for PCIe slots which might turn on or off some SATA 6G operations. Possibly, which slot your video card is in would have an effect.

So, what might be the possibilities. Using the Marvel controller, as gregrocker suggests. Since we need AHCI for TRIM to work on an SSD, the best choice is to use the Intel Controller in AHCI mode, if you can get it working.

I assume you have updated the drivers, and possibly the firmware on the video card.

It looks like your motherboard was involved is a recall back in December, if the report is even true. How old is your board, or is there some revision to it?

And one way out thing to try would be to look in the Bios, the Boot section and see what is set for the "PCI ROM Priority". Does it say Legacy, or UEFI compatible?

I'm not looking for any workarounds but for a real solution.

Like Saltgrass sais, I'll be missing out on some important functions if I use IDE mode.

These are both brand new boards and a brand new system build. I bought The UD3 a few months ago and the G1 last week.
The reason I bought the second board is because I'm still waiting on a return of my UD3 board from RMA.

All firmware and Bios-es are updated to the newest. Drivers are no issue here because the problem happen when installing Windows (clean install).

Bios settings
PCI rom priority set to pci 1 (default) where my card is at.
set to UEFI compatible (default)

It happens always at the same spot while installing windows.
I've tried two windows 7 home premium x64 versions. One with sp1 and one without. Also used a USB installation.
When using one of these on my laptop there are no problems.

Same problem on two different mobo's. It happens after the second boot, where I suppose to put in my name for the first time.

Yesterday I've noticed that my PSU isn't working correctly. Today I've renewed it.
Gues I´ll have to check if the Sata issue still occurs. Upcomming weekend I´ll have time to check.

If you are installing in EFI mode to a GPT disk then there are special procedures: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

If you want to try to install to an MBR disk then remove EFI boot disk from BIOS boot order or choose BIOS Legacy mode, wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command to make sure it is an MBR disk.
