Hey Guys,
I recently decided to try out GTA 4 on Windows 7. The install went fine. I didn't have to run anything in compatibility mode like some ppl (i installed through steam). The game actually runs fine for about 5 minutes, but then it crashes and freezes on the current frame. I'm able to get out of the game using crl + alt + del, but not alt + tab. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having the crash issue and if they have any ideas on what could fix this.

Specs:
32-Bit
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66GHz
4 GB RAM
Nvidea GeForce 9600GT 1 GB
windows version has not been cracked or anything, is still completely genuine

If anyone can help I'd be really thankful. :)

Hey Catalyst,
One question, if you have an Nvidia card why did you put your name as the ATI brand? haha
anyways, on to your answer:
I never had the problem like you, but I did put it in compatiblity mode under Win XP and installed the win live update. and then restarted the computer. Something about it that does that. I honestly have no idea but its been the only proven method for alot of people. My guess is you got that 1/1000 chance that it worked on the first go without compatibility.

Try it out and let us know how it goes.

fix

Hey,

It turns out that GTA 4 has a memory leak that affects a few users. I was one of the lucky few. There are two ways to fix this:

1. Turn down your graphics settings in-game to the point where it is no longer a fun game to play.

2.The better way is to get a program that solves the memory leak for you. One such program is MemTurbo. Here is a link to another forum that has more information and a simplified setup process: GameSpot Forums - Grand Theft Auto IV - Possible fix for memory leak..

As far as the whole catalyst name goes, I've had this gamer name since before I knew of the catalyst control panel for ATI. 'Tis quite unfortunate...
