hal.dll problem persists due to upgrade?

Hi

I first installed Windows 7 Home Edition, then upgraded to Pro Edition using Anytime Upgrade. I didn't get a disc for the Pro Edition, I just have the Home Edition disc.

Now I'm trying to fix a hal.dll error but the system won't repair it. Is this because of the upgrade to Pro Edition?

Do I need to reinstall and then upgrade again online...?

Hi Bongo

I have the factory disc for Home Edition, if worse comes to worse I can reinstall the Home Edition and then I guess re-upgrade to Pro.
I still don't know why the hal.dll corrupted.
(I read on another forum that hal.dll isn't needed by an OS later than XP, but whatever...)
If no one suggests a way to replace hal.dll itself without needing to reinstall everything, I guess that's what I'll have to do.
But I'm hoping someone can tell me about some kind of 'back door fix' of just this .dll .
I'm also hoping someone can explain what I did wrong so that I can avoid doing that next time.

Jerry gave the link where you can download the Win 7 Pro ISO and create a bootable Install disc.
You could use that Win 7 Pro disc to see if a repair will fix your issue.

I flinched when I saw "OEM". Long story. I'm new here and newer to Digital River. I've had time to skim DR's web page and I now understand the purpose of the link, the ISO CD, and the legality of it. Sorry.

The boot disc couldn't fix the hal.dll problem so I tried the Custom install. I knew there'd be an 'overwrite' but I thought that just meant it would use the same partition and I assumed that a "Windows Old" folder would be created but it wasn't.

Is there a way to un-do this installation to restore the computer to where there was the original problem? I want to instead install onto a different disc drive because this installation wiped everything.
