Solved Has anybody succeeded playing videos from their SkyDrive on Windows 7?

It's both ridiculous and enraging - I have it working in Windows 8 and failing on IE10 in Windows 7. On the same bloody hardware.

The format that should be definitely playable is mp4. So, my question is - is there anyone who has it working on IE 10 in Win 7? I need to know!

What do you mean by "working"? Are you asking if you can stream the video from Skydrive?

If I attempt to stream the video it simply starts downloading it to my computer.

However, I can stream a video from Skydrive to my Android phone or tablet using the Skydrive app.

Yes, that is what I mean, ''streaming'' the video, playing it like it is on Youtube. All the videos on Microsoft pages use HTML5 video, with captioning, full screen, bells and whistles, but on SkyDrive, if I'm on Windows 7 I'm out of luck. It seems it tries to use Sliverlight, and fails trying. Using Firefox and Chrome will lead to a disappointment in both Windows 7 and 8...

Hilariously, on the marketing side they claim that any HTML5 compliant modern browser will work. Well, not really.

I seem to have a knack for solving bizarro Microsoft problems. It is a permissions issue: logged into my own SkyDrive I can't stream my own videos on Windows 7, while being able to do it in all my Win 8 Metro apps and Win 8 IE 10 in both ''flavors'', however, if I provide myself a public link to the folder, it automagically works. Not only in IE10, but also in Chrome and Firefox. I just looove the bizarro world of MSFT web services.

Yah, now it automagically works even when I just log into my own account and go to the folder, without going via the public link. :roflmao: icnic: rb: :sarc:

This needs an update - they fixed this issue (maybe prompted by my bug report there) and your videos, if uploaded to Skydrive in H264 mp4 format will play in all browsers that support HTML5 video. They don't need to be shared, but you have to be logged in. So it works like it should.

Interesting finding,
Yes permissions of the folders are very important but it also depends on if you have the skydrive folder "app in win-8" on both machines and have added the other machine "Pc's" on the left column in skydrive,
Being logged in is mandatory otherwise yes again the folder would have to be in publicly shared with anyone or anyone with the shared link.
