HDD fail soon preventing Install.

Hey,

On my system i originaly had 'Windows 7 32bit' Installed how ever i needed more ram in my pc which was over the amount in which 32bit can use, I noticed that i also had a 64bit of Windows 7 install disk as well as a 32bit version so i tryed to upgrade to 64bit from 32 and i refused to upgrade so i did a complete fresh install.

I formated my HDD and the tryed to install the 64bit version when i can across this.....


First of it takes ages to get to the language select sreen from selecting boot disk.

Secondly when i do select the language and click install now it takes for ever on the 'Setup is Starting...' Screen.

'Not sure but i dont think these 2 took so long when i installed it about 6 months ago.'

now for the major issues....


these are the Partitions it made last time, they are all free and have nothing on them now,

When i select the biggest or anyone of these i get a warning message at the bottom and a text bit saying show details somthing like that and it displays this when i click it.

now if i just ignor this and go on and install it displays like the image below for about 10-20 mins then...

Now i came here as at the moment i dont have the money to go out and buy a new 'SATA HDD', so im looking to hope i can solve the issue.


PS: these images actually were taken trying to install 32bit instead of 64bit how ever ive way the results are the same.

Test your HD's using maker's diagnostic/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Next run chkdsk /r on all HD's from Win7 DVD Repair console command line.

Next zero the HD using DISKPART Clean All command, to get the cleanest possible slate: Boot DVD>Repair console>Recovery tools, open Command Line, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Windows 7 disk)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
assign letter=c:
active
format
exit

Now return to Install Now to Custom install to partition you have just created.

- Unable to find a Diag/repair to'ol for my make of HD as mine is 'MDT'

- On 'chkdsk /r' it said the following,

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected


- i have not proceeded any further as im not sure if i should ingor this and continue or what ever....


Update:
Hmmmm... i did 'chkdsk /c' and i got loads of scans and what not and the final line said,

failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

im assuming thats because of there is no OS on the system currently.

also it said '3086 KB total disk space' thats not right -_-

so....

Use GWScan as it works on almost all HD's. It is Western Digital Lifeguard but adapted for all models: GWSCAN 5.12

Extract the files then burn the ISO which will unzip into C:cabs. Suggest you use ImgBurn at 4x speed to burn it.

Use full Scan from booted CD, then zero the HD from same CD.

Are you running chkdisk /r exactly as typed from Win7 DVD Command Line? It should only give the error you report if it is being run from same HD being checked. Try again, or burn free Partition Wizard bootable CD to run File System Check on each HD.

I ran GWSCAN 5.12 and did a full test and it said this on last line

'Warning! One or more current or worst-case attributes are below threshold.'

then it tells me to press any key to continue.

The drive is failing. Just be glad you got your data off of it.

It may still be covered under warranty then. Most computer hardware is warranteed for a year for replacement or repair. Call tech support to see.
