HDMI connection between computer and Smart TV doesn't work

Earlier this year my Smart TV displayed images from my notebook computer's screen on the TV screen. It no longer does, and I don't know. I'm seeking answers to this mystery.

I purchased the computer in 2009, so it's old by today's standards. Still, it runs Windows software competently.

On the computer, the TV isn't recognized, and on the TV, the computer isn't. I used the correct input on the TV, which is HDMI 1/MHL. The HDMI cable was connected to that input.

The reason I think the problem is with the computer is that a ROKU sensor device is connected to an HDMI port on the TV, and it works fine. I've tested it on different HDMI ports on the TV, and the computer connection to the same ports. The ROKU device worked on every port, whereas the computer didn't work on any port. I also used different HDMI cables to connect the devices, and the result was always the same: the ROKU device worked when connected to the TV via HDMI; the computer didn't.

If the problem is indeed with the computer, I can't tell whether it's due to a defective device driver, or if it's hardware-related.

Here are some basic parameters for the notebook computer:

HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx
Windows 7 Professional SP 1
64-bit OS
8 GB RAM

In Device Manager:

Display adapters

Cyberlink Mirror Driver
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD

The TV is a Sony Bravia.

Can anyone help? What other information can I provide to help troubleshoot this?

You should be able to right click the desktop and enter the Intel graphics controller. In there you have settings to chose how your HDMI port works. You may need to select something so that the mirror driver is not using HDMI and only the Intel card.

I don't have an Intel GPU to say for sure what exactly might be the issue.

On my system there are limited options available for multiple display settings in the Intel Graphics Controller or Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel.

The Operating Mode setting is "Single Display".
The Primary Display setting is "Built-in Display"

There's no HDMI post setting. And Monitor and TV settings aren't supported.

And when I tried to update the driver in Windows Device Manager, I was informed that the Intel card driver is up to date.

Perhaps I should just disable the mirror driver so only the Intel driver uses the HDMI port? What do you think about that?

That may work.

On the keyboard look for a monitor secondary function. You'd press the FN key + the monitor key. This should cycle between monitors. Try that once.

If that doesn't work go back to the device manager and tell me what the hardware ID is for the video card. It's under the Details tab | hardware IDs. May need to take a screenshot. To take a screenshot you can search for Snipping Tool in the start menu under search.
