I recently changed some settings and it seems that the changes I made have made my admin account to a guest account. I can't elevate any application with admin priveleges now.

So, how did it happened?
I opened netplwiz and changed some settings there. And I change my admin's account username to "duanebytes" from the default "user".

Now everytime I log on, I get a guest account. And the best part is I can't re-change the settings as it asks for admin password.. There is no admin password in my computer, what the **** am I supposed to enter?

THIS IS MY ONLY ADMIN ACCOUNT AND NOT IT HAVE BECAME A NORMAL ACCOUNT.

Hello Duane,

You might see if this may be able to help you log in to the built-in Administrator account in Safe Mode to be able to undo the changes you made. If not, then at least you will be able to create a new administrator account to use instead while logged in as the built-in Administrator.
  • Boot into Safe Mode.
  • If Safe Mode did not boot into the built-in Administrator account, then enable the built-in Administrator account and continue. If it did, then stop and make your changes.
  • Log off in Safe Mode, and then log on to the built-in Administrator account to logon with that account in Safe Mode.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Shawn,

Thank you for you reply, I did tried that but I get Error 5 - Access Denied.
Looks like the only way is to reinstall Windows or roll back to my restore point which is 2 months ago..

A restore point may be best in an attempt to avoid a clean reinstall.

I think so too. But it was 2 months ago, I'll see what I can recover.
