Help setting up wireless network w/ new linksys router

I had to redo my uncles wireless router this weekend. I was able to get the router hooked up and working with a hardwire, but the wireless didn't seem to get setup and when I tried to do it through control panel I didnt have any luck.

I should say that I think he's on Vista (it's a compaq that's about 6 or 8 months old)

what is the right way to do this?

What model router is he using? Find the relevant product on the webpage and check the online manuals for it.

Sorry, I should say I need help setting up the wireless network, not the router itself, that part is done.

This is the linksys router it is:

Why won't vista automatically detect the wireless like 7 did for me?

Needless to say I'm still having an issue.

Hi, can you connect to the router via it's ip address in any browser?
example: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (should be your gateway ip address through "ipconfig /all"

Ahh this could be it in fact... I mean I believe the wireless signal is being sent out of the router, the laptop is able to connect to the internet via a hardline, but as soon as I unplug it, it goes dead. And the laptop for sure does have wireless capabilities.

Where exactly would I go to turn on the wireless in a laptop? I'm not really familiar with them.

Well, it depends on the model and make. E.g HPs have a switch in the front left. Other makes use Fn plus one of the keys on the top or the side. Others again have a dedicated switch all the way on the top of the keyboard (sort of a touch-switch). I suggest you look into the manual of that laptop. You usually find that in the Help and Support section of the Start menu.
