Hmm, how odd. I don't know why it's doing this, but it seems to only work if you do this below first to have the name with only a few letters instead of the full name.
  • Rename the shortcut on the desktop to SR
  • Right click on shortcut, and there should be a "Pin to Taskbar" option to click on now. Do so.
  • Right click on the taskbar icon, right click on SR in the jump list, and click on Properties.
  • Click on the General tab, then type in Safely Remove Hardware in the top field box just to the right of the icon in the properties page.
If you like, you might consider this option below instead.

Hi Stephanie

Just to lessen your worries. You actually can unplug your USB device without searching "Safely Remove". On my knowledge, windows has set the default for most USB device as "for quick removal". So, while working with the troubleshooting, you can still plug and unplug your USB device without worries as long as you are not in the middle of writing it. :)

But yes, having clicked safely remove button bring us more peace. ;)

You got to the drop before me, I was just about to say something along those lines, so instead I'll agree entirely with you.
I don't believe I ever have used that icon, but then I don't have auto-run active.
I mean it just not safe..........who knew ?:)

not a solution but try start button/devices and printers and see if the kindle shows there, right clicking it there will give the eject option.
