Dear Windows 7 Home Network Experts,

After hours of trying, I can see my 2 compupters on the Home Network. I can share printers, but no matter what I do, I cannot access folders or hard disks. I have:

- encabled sharing
- disabled firewall

The messages I get are:
Windows cannot access \\other computer name\disk or folder name
You do not have permission to access \\other computer name\\disk or folder name. Contact your network administrator to request access.

These are my own computers and I have created and am managing the home network....

Thank you!

Did you select "everyone" when you try to share a folder?

Yes, "everyone" has Full Control on the disk or folders I need to share.

Ok Open the Control Panel - Network and Sharing Centre. Over on the left, click "Change Advanced sharing settings".
Choose "Home or work" Work through the options, giving the appropriate permissions. I would suggest to turn off the password option.

If that doesnt work. Easy way to share your folders by using Microsoft Windows Wizard for sharing folders.

Open RUN/Search box and type shrpubw.exe then follow the instruction.

Thanks for you prompt responses and suggestions. I tried the Wizard you suggested to share an entire disk, the new share name appears on the other computer, but still shows the same error msg that Windows cannot access the disk or folder.

Allow me to add that I can access printers and a folder calaled "users" on computer 1 that I did not intentionally share and have no use on computer 2. Both computers are running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I applied the registry patch on both computers, and rebooted both. Still no luck.

As a test you should try adjusting the permissions on the Security tab rather than the Share permissions tab which I believe you already did.

The link below shows you how to make adjustments to the Security of the actual drive. If this doesn't give you access then something else is blocking the connection like A/V software or possibly a third party firewall.

I have the same problem and luckily i found a way to solve this problem.
-Open the properties of folder that you want to share, under sharing tab click advance sharing.
-Click the share this folder checkbox, name it anything you want to. Click permissions under Comments.
- On share permissions window click Add, the Select User or Groups window will pop-up, click the advanced at the bottom.
-Another window will pop out, click the Find Now button and wait for the search results.
-Now scroll down and find the HomeGroupUser$ and click Ok.

I hope this will work for you too. Sorry for my bad grammar. I'm just a newbie here. Goodluck.
