HomeGroup networking. Microsoft had tried to get its "Castle" networking scheme into Windows Vista, but the feature will finally appear in Windows 7 as HomeGroup. Essentially a combination of workgroup networking with file and media sharing, HomeGroup makes it easier to create a home network where PCs share pictures, music, videos, documents, printers, and other resources with each other.

and this should GREATLY simplified networking like i said sometime ago
from the enable control userpasswords2 tutorial

"alphauser$ is put by default by Microsoft...
and works with home networking
its called "homegroup"...
you know when network you (usually) need to have to exact same usernames + passwords...
that is replaced with homegroup and alphauser$ which simplifies networking...
you can try it with two win7 machines
wont help if you have a win7 machine and vista or win7 and xp machine though...
just wanted to clarify..."

they made so that it is possible to easily network two machines without creating a extact username and password on each machine so that its almost 100% network problem free...
i mean there are other other techonologies built around it but i think z3r010 this will make it easier for your fam. and friends once they acquire setup and get used to win7

but this only happens when you choose home as the network type or location....
just my two cent...

I think it's safe to assume that by the time that Windows 7 ships there will be a patch to enable Homegroup with Vista machines. They did the same thing for XP machines with the "Link Layer Technology" in Vista'.

It will be interesting to see what happens to XP support for new networking systems in Windows 7

It will be interesting to see what happens to XP support for new networking systems in Windows 7

but then i believe that they wont support xp by that time...
since most speculate that w7 will be RTM by Q3 which is around the time xp will lose support for mainstream users...
well then again you never know if microsoft will bring out an recomended update supporting w7 homegroups before that....
i doubt it though
vista will of course will be supported for this most likely sp2 (very likely depending the TBA date of deployment) but i can see it being deployed in conjuction with w7...
that would be a very good thing for its image at least in my book...lol

Yeah, not being able to test the homegroup with the vista machines on my network sucks. I certainly don't want a pre-beta OS on every machine in my house! I certainly hope they patch vista for it or include it in SP2.

yes for sure it will be in sp2...
it has to be in sp2 since there is going to be home interaction with both enviroments

its not if will or not but of when is sp2 going to be released....

if they dont implement this useful option there is going to be HUGE backlash of vista users.....
i will tell you that for sure

So if I'm reading this correctly, Win7 computer cannot be seen or connected to for sharing files from and to an XP machine or an XBMC modded XBox?
