How can I put a caption on a pic and see it when I print the pic

I'm totally clueless about anything involving saving and printing pictures on my computer, so pls don't flame me when you read this naive newbie's question.

I can scan prints and save them to my hard drive using the Canon scanner and its built-in software. No pblm there.

But what I'd really like to do is not only save the picture as a jpg file that I could go back to later and print but also save a readable caption associated with it, that contains my own input as to what the picture is, etc. Many of my pictures are OLD family photos that are labeled on the back, and I want to type in what's written on the back so that when I view or print the picture I view or print the caption as well.

I've looked at the various software that seems to be bundled with Win 7 and I haven't found an easy way to do this.

I think I could just import each pic file one at a time into something like Word 2010 and type each caption one at a time. That would probably work. But I would like suggestions for other ways that might work also.

Thx.

You could use Faststone Image Viewer - Freeware

This allows you to do batch conversions to add text, watermarks, resize and a whole bunch of other stuff etc. Or you could do individual images (plus it's free) :D

NB. just remember if you over write the original image with a text overlay you can't undo it ;)
