How can I stop MP12 seeing my recycle bin?

I have my MP3 library on a NAS drive and things are working quite well except when I delete any files, they are still being 'seen' in my recycle bin(which is on the root of the same directory of the NAS drive), giving double entries until it is emptied. It sees the recycle bin as a folder named $RecycleBin.
Is there any way of preventing this? ie excluding it from my library directory list but still allowing me to keep the recycle bin.

Hello,

You can remove Recycle Bin from the library if you wish by clicking Manage Libraries from under Organize in MWP.

Hope this helps,
~JK

That only gives me the option to add locations and not exclude them. I think the problem is that the recycle bin is not on the root of my share - it is in the library's directory. Therefore it is always 'seen' unless I move it (if that is even possible).

ie. My present location is \\READYNAS\media\music\jim_morrisson\american_prayer and my MP12 library is looking at \\READYNAS\media\music

After deletion the recycle bin always appears in the 'music' directory and not in the root, 'media'

@ JK - Yes but I only have that one location in my library so if I delete it .....

@ derekimo - Nope, I've got my folder view settings at default so that's not it..... But if I tick/untick 'show hidden files, folders & drives' I can flash my recycle bin on & off on the root of my system drive! :D

Maybe something to do with network drive settings? ..... erm
I've just noticed that the $RECYCLE.BIN on the NAS drive is not greyed out or locked as in the root version - it looks just like a regular folder and is just as editable. I have even tried taking ownership of the RB's folder, removing the 'read only' status, ticking the 'hidden' box and all sorts of other stuff .... no luck, it just won't budge except I can delete it.

I know the snipping tool is great. Here's what mine looks like, if you check that box "Hidden" , then apply, and OK, and see if that does what you want.

Nope, that's where my problem lies. I cannot seem to edit the properties of that folder. I have taken ownership, clicked it to death but nothing seems to work - The damn thing just resets itself  However everything works as it should on my system drive, so it is definitely a networked drive issue.

A little more info...

I just checked my other shares on the NAS drive and if I delete a file on them I am asked 'are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?' which means there is no recycle bin on that particular share. It is only on my 'media' share that I am asked 'are you sure you want to send this file to the recycle bin?'

I wonder if it has something to do with my MP12 library being directed to a shortcut on my system drive (which then directs it to my NAS drive) This prevents a copy of my 10K mp3s being kept to my system drive (which why I wanted to network it in the first place) It is interesting to note that the path shown in the library (above) does not show the shortcut, but only the media directory.

*edit* Just seen your last post - looks like we are thinking along the same lines :)
My recycle bin doesn't appear to have the share tab .... now I'm really confused.

You and me both RazMan, I'm Sorry but I'm out of ideas on this one, I guess you could keep checking back to see if someone else has got a fix for you.
It doesn't actually show up in the media player library does it?

Looks like someone created a folder named $Recycle.Bin on a Unix based NAS device...Is this true, Razman? Try re-renaming the folder?

It doesn't actually show up in the media player library does it?

MP12 sees the deleted files in the library until $RECYCLE.BIN is deleted. If I right-click on a file and 'open file location' it will take me to either a 'proper' or deleted file. Of course this only happens when there are identical files in a folder AND $RECYCLE.BIN, which show up as double entries in the library.

Looks like someone created a folder named $Recycle.Bin on a Unix based NAS device...Is this true, Razman? Try re-renaming the folder?

I am using a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo which I think doesn't use any Unix code - I certainly haven't introduced it to any such horrors anyway

Ok, I just renamed $RECYCLE.BIN to $CRAP which worked ok.
I then deleted a few test files - and $RECYCLE.BIN magically reappears!

The only way I can really delete them (without creating $RECYCLE.BIN in the same directory) is to [shift delete] the files - I guess I will just have to remember to do this on my mp3s in future.

Right-click on Recycle Bin on your desktop and hit Properties. Then select the drive your music files are on and select "Do not send to recycle bin". Then you will not need to worry about Shift-Del.

   Warning
Not recommended if you have files you could accidentally delete. Only do this if you are very careful about deleting stuff, or have some darn good recovery software on hand!
