How do i configure my Program Files located at different partition

Hi Admins and Experts,

i have this issue. i installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit OS on my SSD (120GB only and mainly for OS only), then i have attached a separate 500GB (2.5inch) for purely for Data and Program Files. i did this so i could boot fast. it is working but the problem is, when i tried to run such as BattleField3, Max Payne, Assassin's Creed, etc, the games loading is very slow.. as in super slow, sometime i thought it hanged but it is not. once it loads, it is also lagging. is there any script or i need to configure to tell my system immediately that my Program Files for that program is located at D:\Program Files\..\..\ and not in C:\Program Files\..\..\.\?

i tried installing the games in C:\Program Files\..\ and it is loading fast so meaning it has no issue.

I would not have Program files on an external HD which is throttled some by the USB controller. You'd want them on an internal HD, and ideally the C partition since they write registry keys that integrate them into the OS so should remain a part of it until they are uninstalled.

I wouldn't even have data on an external except as a backup. YOu can move your data to another partition or hard drive and then link it's User Folders - Change Default Location

thanks for the reply.. actually the other harddisk is an internal drive as well.. i had created a new Program Files folder on my drive D for the big games i am playing. thanks also for the tips on how to move. i will try it and update..

If you use WIndows Backup Imaging it will want to include the data partition in the image since System files are moved there when you move any User folders.

A way around this is to instead copy your User folders to the data partition, rightclick each to add to Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums and then set as default Library - Set Save Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Once the data folders appear in Library, you can delete the C folder's content but leave the empty C User folder in the Library so that if anything lands there you can see in in the Library view and drag it easily to D User folder.

Either way works fine. Moving User folders sometimes requires surgery to reset to Defaults and then move again (or not), while Libraries are less work.
