I XP I would type prefetch in run and then delete. I cant even find run in 7.
Just open up your C: drive then open the Windows folder and in there is a folder called Prefetch
Open that folder and delete every entry and then restart your pc.
Your understand is mistaken. Where did you get it, may I inquire?
It is my understand that if you dont dump the prefetch periodicaly it will slow your machine down.
Thanks
Perhaps I have misinformation. I have been dumping the pretch files for years and have not really noticed my machine loading up web pages slower. I read where they were like temp. internet files and need to be flushed every once in a while. I guess based on what is being said here that is wrong?

Prefetch does not effect web pages. It helps speed up the launch of applications as well as the booting of the computer. Prefetch creates small index files a certain executable is going to need and in what order so Windows will preload those into memory before the application calls for them.
Clearing out Prefetch destroys that history and the work it as gone into optimizing your HDD. Just leave Prefetch alone. Windows is smart enough to handle it on its own.

Too make matters worse your little bat file is also deleting the ReadyBoot folder (which contains optimized startup traces for when you boot the computer, 5 max). Or are you one of those that disabled the ReadyBoost service which is also responsible for ReadyBoot?
