Hi i have just got a computer running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and i am trying to network with my other computer running wondows vista 32 bit.

I have turned of the homegroup and i am using the workgroup.

I have shared the whole hard drive on both computers and when i click on network i can see the folders on the other computer but when i try to open them i gat Access is denied.

The folders i have shared on the windows 7 computer do not hae the little people on but if i look at the the hard drive with windows explorer the little people are there.

When i did this with visat and xp i used to hae to input the computer password but now i dont get asked for that.

This is the same what ever computer i try to use

Have you turned File and Printer sharing to ON? Refer to my tut in sig on File Sharing to see if you have missed something...particularly permissions/security.

Hi thanks for the reply

I have had a look at your other post about file sharing but that is about Xp and win 7 and i am trying to network vista and Win 7. but it did remind me about permissions.
I have checked and all network discoery is on and file and printer sharing is on and i hae set the permissions to full. i can see the folder so i am connecting ok but just not able to open them.

Regards to you

Create a new folder in that shared folder and put some files in there. Then see if you can map directly to that folder like \\ipaddress\sharedfolder. from the search box in Start.

Another thing to make it easier is to dis-enable the easy file sharing....

Open My Computer
Click on "Organize"
Then Folder Options
Click on "View" Tab
Scroll to the bottom of the list
and uncheck the "use sharing wizard"

that will enable you to set your permission
