i am using the LOGITECH PC Headset 120 and while using ventrilo other people can hear the sound that is being played into my headset, music or other peaople talking, through my mic.

i have been having this problem for a few months now and thought that it was something todo with ventrilo settings. But i have recently started using skype now aswell and have been getting the same response from people that i am talking to on skype.

the headset never came with any install cd or anything so am i missing a setting in my control panel or something that is causing this to happen as it is getting quite annoying for the people that i am talking too.

Is it LOUD or quiet?

If quiet, it may just be that the mic is picking up sound that is escaping from the headset then replacing the entire thing is probably the only way to fix it. There are some rare feedback cencellation fetures of some cards but it would be better to get a headset that does not "leak" sound to the mike. (Assuming that's what's happening)

If it's loud, then maybe you have the default recording device set to "monitor" which may be then playing back a mix of your mic and your speakers(headset)? Right cilck the sound icon then select Recording Devices. Though USUSALY the mic is a seperate thing. My mic inputs are not the recording page for example, but I have a slightly strange card. But if your mic input is listed for recording devices maybe try selecting that (if not already selected)?

it's loud, dosn't matter if its music i'm listening too or a video on youtube, they can hear exactly what i hear.

my mic is enabled on the recording devices although on the playback it says that my speakers are active and that headphones are not plugged in.

If you select the Mic in "Recording Devices" and then selct the properties button you may see some options that help. First note your settings as they are now, then look under the enhancements tab, there may some options that help reduce unwanted background noise and echo.

Also, under the Listen tab, you should be able to select the output device, however, I don't think you want to use the listen to this device checkbox.

Go to your Windows sound panel, select your device and go to properties, in the levels tab make sure your mic there is muted. Now go to your microphone under the recording devices tab and make sure 'listen to this device' is unchecked.

Please update me when you have tried these.
