How do you mount a flash drive to a certain letter on any computer?

I'm working on a project that will run off my flash drive. Due to various limitations of the software I am using, the software must always look in the exact same directory for referenced files.

I don't have the option of installing a program on every computer I try to use it on, nor will I have administrator access.

Is there any way to force a drive to mount to the same drive letter on all host computers with these limitations? Perhaps by using the autorun.inf file?

Right click on My Computer>Manage>Disk Management>You should see the USB drive in the list - right click> Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Should work without admin rights.........;)

One tip when you assign a drive letter to a removable drive:
Choose a letter high up in the alphabet, between M and Z. This is because if a fixed drive in any machine you use the stick in already has the drive letter you choose, then the removable's letter will not 'stick' and will change.

Hi 2CATteam,

Check out on this. USB Drive Letter Manager - USBDLM

Experiment and let us know whether it did help.:)

EDIT: What I think is that your aim should be to always point to the files in the drive and not to give a specific drive letter to the drive. What if the user of the host computer has that drive letter assigned already?

Though I am not a programmer and have no programming acumen , from what I have read I presume you should be able to run this from your flash drive to install the necessary services on the host computer to kick start it and assign a drive letter that is not used on the host computer but always pointing to that flash drive.

I do remember that in one thread I had helped one user to get rid of some irritation on his computer that was always looking for a specific folder on a flash drive. That drive happened to be one from a software vendor doling his stuff on flash drives. I , as notorious as I am, have forgotten all details.:)
