How safe are UPS's

How safe is it to buy a CyberPower Backup for my computer and how far away should I have it? I'm thinking of a 625VA for 2 computers to just shut down when the power goes off. Is there any reason why I can't have 8 foot extention cords (The big 3 prong type) to go from the Cyberpower Backup to my computer and big monitor?

Hello Richard,

While it's not recommended, you may be ok if you use a heavy duty grounded power cord that has a better rating than the backup unit's power ratings. If you don't then you may run the risk of the extension cord overheating, melting, and shorting out.

Why are you trying to keep the UPS so far away? I have 4 UPS's in my house running most of my machines/network equipment. And all of them are close to the equipment they are powering.

Maybe the UPS is near 1 system and he needs to get power over to the other system across the room.

That 625VA UPS may be too small to power those 2 systems and screens. Either buy a larger one or buy 2 of the 625's.
