How to delete all account information from outlook 2010 an start fresh

Hi I was having a problem where outlook was not syncing my sent mail past last week.

so I deleted my email address account and wanted to start again and change settings from pop3 to imap

When I deleted the account I found I could not fully remove it from the side pane as it was set as the default email address.

I then decided to re add the same email address in the hopes that I could use the new one as default and delete the old one

Now I am still stuck with the same email address that I could not remove from before and I am having a new problem where the sent mail will not sync from today

I have uninstalled office and re installed it but the address is still saved somehow?

any help would be greatly appreciated

Try this. Open Control Panel, select the Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2010), when that opens select Email Accounts, that will then open your email accounts & you will see that you can remove accounts, reset the default account & set up a new email account, as you can than follow through from here to set up all the details for a new account.

All Outlook account details are stored in your Documents Library under Outlook Files & are stored in .pst format & can only be accessed from within Outlook & any changes can be done as I mentioned above.

i ranger thanks for reply I just tried what you suggested I created a new email account set that as the default account however I cannot change the default data file any ideas?

When you have opened up the Mail applet from within Control Panel, you can get to the Data files. If you click on the email account that you want to get rid of & then select Open File Location, you could try deleting that whole file. I have NOT tried this so I don't know what the outcome would be, so it would be good idea to back up your Outlook File folder that should be in your Documents Library.

I have already done this and it removes it from the folder but the dta file still shows up in outlook and I cannot make my other data file default

do you know how to remove the data files completely from the computer using the registry?

or any other way I can get this fixed please

I just found this on the web, so it is worth trying. Basically it's what you have been doing but there are a few suggestions on closing Control panel & Outlook etc.

Remove Outlook 2010 Data File from Navigation Pane
Click on Start
Control Panel
Mail
Data Files
Highlight the email you want to be Default and click “Set As Default” from the menu.
Highlight the Outlook Data File and click “Remove” from the menu
The Outlook Data file will not be removed until you close Control Panel, open Outlook and select “Outlet Data File” in the Navigation pane, right click and click on “Close Outlook Data File”. Then it will go away.......

Hi Ranger I just followed this tutorial on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIZXXh7OUjg and it worked ...

however when I created a new data file there was already a data file called "outlook data file" set as default and I am in the exact same situation again what is going ion aarrhh

I tried to delete the outlook data file from the navigation pane on the left hand side but it is blacked out so I could not follow the rest of the steps

While looking at that YouTube video you mentioned I also had a look at this one, so it might be worthwhile having a look at that as well & follow it through.

It mainly deals with corrupt files in Outlook & perhaps this corruption is causing your problem.
