How to make a first time clean install.[updated]

Ok so i've been reading here how doing a clean install of windows 7 along with having a windows back up to restore files is the best way to getting your P.C brand new.

I did a dvd windows back up to some media files, nothing big so am ready to clean install.

Problem is how? lol. I don't have a windows 7 dvd or whatever. I just bought this toshiba laptop with win7 already in it and ready to go. In control panel/system there is a windows product ID as well as a toshiba service station 2.2.9 serial # which i use to update drivers and bios when it says so.

I have only one c: drive and a d: dvd drive and i dont see nothing that has a recovery file like my H.P does.

You have a couple options, use the built in recovery partition (see the info below) to take the PC back to "factory" or have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Be advised: this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!
To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

If I may ask..... clean install to what ?

You said you just bought a brand new Toshiba with Windows 7 preinstalled.
Now, you want to clean install the Toshiba ? Why ?

If you have performance problems requiring a reinstall then you can run full Factory Recovery as suggested.

If you have the desire to trim back the factory preinstalled bloatware and utilities, have a look at this: Clean up factory bloatware

Hey guys
Sorry about not updating for so long but was busy with my finals.

The Toshiba full factory recovery worked perfectly=] besides the long reinstall and loud noise it makes at first to get it to that mode. I don't know why they have a keep that image file "hidden" the way it is for my laptop.

@t-4-2 lol I've had the laptop since like the beginning of 2010 and messed with reg keys without backing most of them up.

One problem I am having though is my laptops ability to restore back up media files I stored in a few dvd's. Everytime I try the 1st dvd which contains one large 2.86gb file it says its restoring but never does. At one point it freezes it i put cancel and if i put to shutdown it says "shutdown" for years so i just manully turn it off.

I have no external drives which apparently work perfect for backing up and restoring for windows, but dvd's i guess not.

Make sure, you make your Toshiba Recovery Disks.

Try backup files to a external HD drive.

I would not trust a file backup program or utility, but drag and drop my active User folders. This is almost always 100% reliable.
