How to preserve partition when using UEFI for Windows 7 installation?

I have Asus UEFI motherboard with 2TB hard drive. By following tutorial on this forum I created UEFI bootable USB.

In this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/186875-uefi-unified-extensible-firmware-interface-install-windows-7-a.html I found that requirements is "A blank, partition-free, hard disk".

My drive has 2 partitions C and D. I want to install windows on C and preserve files on D. Could I do this? Why do we need to have partition free disk?

There is no problem at all in making two partitions before you install Windows. Just be sure and make what will be your C: big enough to hold Windows (30 GB) and any other programs that you will put on it. You can then put all of your Documents, Pictures etc on the D: drive.
