How to skip Windows Login screen on Win 7 ultimate

Hi
I want to skip the login screen on Windows startup. i.e. not press enter, not press anything- I want the desktop to simply load on startup.

I've tried this solution which appears throughout the web and it has done nothing:

Perhaps this doesn't work on Windows 7 ultimate?
I've even unchecked "require a password when computer wakes" in the power settings to no avail.

In addition, double check to make sure that you have unchecked the On resume, display logon screen box in your Screen Saver Settings.

Thanks. Unfortunately still not working.

I just want to clarify a few things which may be relevant: My user is in the Administrators group. Besides it there are a few other users in the users list. Maybe old ones.

After doing all the above steps I still reach at startup the login screen with the picture and name of only my user. I just click on it and the desktop loads. There is no password needed. I don't think I ever had one.

On step 6 of your tuturial, on "Enter the User Account Password", I entered an empty password. Similarly I put an empty string in the DefaultPassword in the registery (step 4 of option 2 in the tutorial.) BTW, the DefaultPassword key indeed did not exist there prior to that.

Did you mean that you left the password fields empty in netplwiz?

The DefaultPassword value is not there by default. Usually, you don't want to use that option unless you're not able to use OPTION ONE since it reveals your password.

That is correct. I don't have a password. My password is an empty string. I just tried now entering a new password in netplwiz but the result is the same.

As a test, create a password for your account, then do netplwiz again with the new password to see how that works.

Be sure to delete the DefaultPassword value in the registry first.

Thank you for your help, Brink, but still doesn't work. Now I get to the same login screen and have to enter the password.
BTW, when I went again to the regedit to remove the defaultPassword it was allready gone again.

Maybe this has to do with user groups? My user is in "HomeUsers; Administrators". In any case I enter the netplwiz "as Administrator". Weird.

Maybe something is not being set right in netplwiz.

If you like, post a screenshot showing netplwiz to see if anything may stand out.

That looks correct to me as well.

Double check using the tutorial below to see if you may have a group policy enabled that could be preventing you to automatically log in at startup.
