Hi,
I have Window 7 Ultimate official box set and installed the 32bit in my old PC few years ago, it was fine till recently the hardware failure from time to time, so I bought yesterday a new set PC (DIY) without OS.
Now I want to transfer the Window 7 license to the new one but use 64bit version. I fully understand the license key only work for 1 PC, therefore I intend to deactivate/ uninstall 32bit in old PC, and use the same key (I read your forums and it should work) for 64bit in the new PC.
Could anybody help to let me know the procedures for deactivate/ uninstall the 32bit from the old PC? prefer step by step, as I am not good at such modification work.
I wonder this procedure should not just been done in the old PC only, I expect it should use LAN connect to Microsoft Web somewhere, to let their product key register servers know that I did uninstall 32bit, so that the product key will be valid again. Please let me know the procedure of that and is this connection/ register servers are regional related (i.e. globally all in US MS HQ or in local MS office Asia)?
Moreover, I believe the installation of 64bit in new PC just like the fresh new installation. Load the software and key in the product key to complete. If any problem or points need to be noted, please kindly advise me as well.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Dcksony,
first of depends on your licence, is it
OEM -- (including system builder) then its not possible to transfer it to an other comp.
Retail -- no problem at all, just download the OS from MS (to a disc/USB)

notes
if you only have 2GB ram then only the 32 bit version will work properly
your original box set SHOULD have had both versions included
MS does NOT care if its 32 or 64 bit the licence is valid for both installs.
if you do not know what type of licence you have read this tutorial and post the output

Answer the above then i can give you more information.

Hi Roy,
My Window 7 sure is Retail license, the box set has 2 CDs, 1 for 32bit, 1 for 64bit and with a yellow color product key. Old PC has 4x1GB RAM and the new PC has 2x8GB RAM.
Thanks,
Dickson

Well thats really good news,
The only thing you >>might<< have to do is a telephone activation. But if you tell them what you told us you wont have a prob.

note you cant have two running at the same time, just wipe the 32 bit with a linux os

What do you mean it won`t work properly Torch ?

It will work fine with 64 bit, and then he has the opportunity to add more memory.

If he has a newer PC, I would hope it has at least a dual core cpu and the ability to add more memory then only 4 GB.

My 9 year old Gateway GT5404 runs 7 HP 64 bit and 10 Pro 64 bit, with an E6700 and a max of 4 GB DDR2 just fine.

I just wish it supported a faster CPU

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 2.66 MHz
Intel 530 Series 180 GB SSD
4 GB PC-2 6400
MSI GTX 660 TF3
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 Bit
Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
