My husbands lenovo PC won't connect to the internet. The internet is working fine for my PC, his samsung galaxy s3 mini phone, and the PS3s.

His PC won't connect, though.

Please, can someone help me1 I don't know what the hell is going on with his PC! is it hardware, software?

I think a windows update may not be installed, because it would't install, last time I looked.

Is it because of that?

The internet went down yesterday, and was down for a bit. But were my pc went back to normal when it came back.

His still has the yellow star over the bars. It detects the internet, but it says 'limited connectivity'.

We tried installing 3 important updates, but one won't work.
The programmes found something. But it did'nnt fix it so far.

His avast antivirus is showing not working either.

Please, please, someone, anyone, help me! Is it hardware, software, what?

And please, please, put the answers in very simple language. No complex stuff, or I won't understand, at all.
Spell out every single step, or I will never understand it.

You seem to have a few things going on. Lets start by checking the underlying system for corruptions:

1. Click Start
orb.png

2. In the search box, type cmd
3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the output from the command window once it finishes.

Thank you. I did the sfc.scannow thing. It went through I, but did'nt repair some of the files. The problem is still there and it won't connect.

I will try again, but I think that is the result, it was done late at night.

If it as as it looks, then what do I do next?

This seems increasingly like a job for a proffessional.

Re-run the sfc scan up to 3 times, one after the other - sometimes it will eventually fix the unfixable files.

W tried 3 times, it did'nt work. What do we do next?

When we did it, it sometimes said it had repaired things.
Sometimes it said it could'nt fix some.

What do we do know, and what do we need to do it.

As it won't connect wirelessly, could we hook it up directly to the router and do that, if it came to it?
I read the pages here, and it says download something. Which he can't, wirelessly.
If I download the System Access Readiness Tool, or whatever is needed, onto a usb stick on mine, will it work?

Can you connect his laptop to the router with a cabled connection? If you do, do you have Internet access now?

This seems increasingly like a job for a proffessional.
you called! :D

as well as the great advice from Golden
can you try something else also meriaterresia , can you right click the wifi icon that is showing disconnected and click open network and sharing centre ,
in the window that opens then look to the left side and click the link that says change adapter settings.

a network connections window will open and you will see your router or the wifi connection, there will be an ethernet connection but it will have a red cross by it.
click the wifi connection or right click it until you see a disable this network device link. im using windows 8 so it is slightly different for me,and i cant give you the exact path,
anyhow it will be there .
once it says it is disabled then click or right click until you see an "enable this device".
enable it then see if it connects or click the wifi icon to see if connections are available.
then select your router.

i can tell you i used to have these problems with my wifes lenovo and this was a fix,

good luck :)

Thank you for the help. :)

We fixed it by resetting it factory settings on sunday.

I was going through his pc, looking for any bad programmes, and I saw the Lenovo Recovery Team.

It turns out there was a backup made on the day we set it up.
So we reloaded that backup, since none other could be found.
and now it works.

I will print out the advice here, in case it happens again.

He's going to be backing up his pc every fortnight, minimum, from now on. And I'll make a repair and recovery disc for it.

glad you have solved it, though a factory reset is extreme , a simple re start of the network card is all it needed, i say simple, in that once you know how its just a couple of clicks to sort out.
