You should stick with nvidia, go with EVGA or MSI

Start to look at the 950 series, but get the best you can afford, a 4 GB card would be best

It's my understanding that Windows 32 Bit is not only limited to 4 GB RAM, but also 4 GB Address Space.
If a GPU is used, the GPU VRAM is part of the Hardware Reserved memory in Windows.

What happens if a person has Win 32 Bit and installs a GPU with 4GB RAM ?

The 4 GB of ram on the video card has nothing to do with the 32 bit issue.

The OP should reinstall 64 bit anyway, he`s using an 8600.

It won`t do anything as far as memory, as the board only supports 4 GB total, but personally, I always install 64 bit with a 64 Bit capable cpu.

It`s a shame the board can`t hold at least 8 GB.

Time to start saving for a new board and cpu.

Too bad, I just sold my Z87 Saber, 4790K, the Dominator and GSkill

I have no idea if it is right or wrong, and can't test it.
Maybe my understanding/belief is wrong.

32-bit Windows has an address space of 4GB. Part of that is used by system BIOSes and graphics memory.
With a 256MB graphics card about 3.3-3.5GB of RAM can be addressed and used, assuming you have 4GB fitted.
If you fit a graphics card with 1GB of memory only about 2.6-2.8GB of the RAM would be addressable and usable.

Right, because a video card with only 1 GB of memory will steal memory from the system, a video card with 4 GB of memory won`t have to.

Buying a video card with any less then 4 GB of ram is just stupid, IMO, whether you game or not.

My card/s have 6 GB each and can steal 16 GB of memory if they would ever need it because I have 32 GB of system memory, older boards could never do that, newer boards are getting better and better at that, and every board is different when it comes to how much it lends to video.

Boards that dedicate memory to hardware reserved are the worst but it has to be done if you run cpu graphics.
