IE10 uses WebcacheV01.dat vs index.dat files. How to clear/delete?

ThrashZone - looks like I did not look close enough at your original postings. IE10 does indeed add a new Tab called "Caches and databases". Unfortunately UsernameIssues claims that it does not prevent the collection of data in the WebCacheV01.dat files/folders. Maybe some more research? Are you sure you dont show the folders in question in the location(s) specified? How about if you DO CHECK the "allow caches and databases" block?

Britton30 - no need to get testy. Discussing ShellBags and folder issues eminating from PrivaZer has nothing to do with whether PrivaZer clears out the WebCacheV01.dat and logs. It is an overall PrivaZer discussion better handled over there.

UsernameIssues - it would be nice to prevent collection or automatic deletion of data in the first place, but manual capability is better than we have now. Even index.dat had to be manually removed as desired by the user.
Can you specifically check on what ThrushZone pointed out regarding the "Caches and database" Tab to see if unchecking its use makes the WebCacheV01.dat folders and logs disappear?

Hi,
I don't show protected system folders so that might be why there's no Webcache folder,
I wouldn't know how to open or read it anyway
I uncheck the box cache and databases because those are the obvious options presented,
Same goes for the delete browser history on exit list, just as the picture shows but I check the box for cookies about every week when I want to get rid of them,
Also Unchecking dom storage as I also mentioned prior,
These are the only avenues I take because I'm not a programmer and do not want to mess up something for no real reason,
If you believe this/ these folders are some type of security/ privacy risk,
I would suggest you look at auto form fill and user name and password fills features first because these are actually more of a security/ privacy risk of which I use none of those features either,
At least three people here have used the download your inquiring about/ one might possibly make a tutorial ?
I don't really see the need for it ?

In post #2, I mention BrowsingHistoryView. That tool should let you see some of what is stored in the database file that we are discussing. You might need to restart you computer, then open that tool (don't open IE). The database stores a list of some of the websites visited and some of the local files that you open. You might be surprised at how far back the info goes.

I did specifically check out the setting that ThrashZone mentioned before I posted that if had no impact on the data being collected in this webcache database. Unchecking that option (and even restarting the computer after unchecking that option) still allowed data to be collected. That option seems to be related to allowing websites to save data specific to the website (like Flash does)... but I cannot confirm that as Microsoft is silent on the topic.

PrivaZer seems to be your only option for removing these files via a program. If you don't want to use that tool, then remove the files after restarting the computer. Removing the files is the simplest way to know that the data is gone.

As far as others discussing things like PrivaZer's impact on shell bags, I think that any negative impacts caused by PrivaZer's defaults settings to be highlighted in this thread before PrivaZer is declared fit for the task at hand: that of handling the webcache database. I understand how the thread could go too far into dealing with the PrivaZer's settings, but it had already been suggested (in post #51) that Callender make a tutorial (which is another thread).

I'm not sure that there is much more to be discussed in this thread. You can use PrivaZer to delete the database files thanks to Callender's fine research on how to change the setting to make the tool do that

In the post that I just linked to (where you show 9 traces in the webcache database even though you asked PrivaZer to delete the database) I think that you are seeing the database files come right back after deletion.
Open the WebCache folder using Windows (file) Explorer...
...close IE
...have PrivaZer "Remove all" from that folder
...keep an eye on that folder via Windows (file) Explorer and notice what actions cause the database to be recreated.

So, PrivaZer is the tool to use (or delete the files yourself after a restart) just know that these files may come right back.

Just remember with this cache on your computer, there can be no privacy if someone wants your history and has access to your computer or these files !!!
