I did try Win7 7000 and 7048 and got the same problem:
Whenever I open IE8, it needs from 1 to 3 seconds to "Connecting" b4 let me work on it.
I have no idea if you got this too...You can be sure that I dont have any addons or stupid settings that cause this problem

And even the same problem with Notepad

I had this problem as well, but didnt have in-depth time to go thru it and suss it out. Starting IE with no add-ons didnt work, so it wasnt an addon/toolbar or something trying to load ( it seemed) in IE slowing it down. Since a fresh i have yet to have that problem.

Pay close attention to what you install. Namely things like spyware apps, virus scanner, etc... not that ONE specific app is the culprit, but possibly a bad cocktail of them. I have used the same apps mostly over and over on installs, just different combos on each install.

At the time i was running avast with MBM, adaware, and spybot... in my case i'm thinking the "immunize" may have caused my slowdown... but like i said, didnt have time to find out for sure.

Try using the Compatibility View option, I've found that almost ALL of IE8's page connection or "Cannot display page" errors can be fixed simply by using Compatibility View.
Click the "Page" menu and it's in there.

Blazing...
It's actually not a problem with any page. It's just a little slow responding when opening IE8

I would not consider that a complaint or issue as such. IE, like other browsers, has security settings. It is probably checking those before proceding. I do not care to try it, but if you reduce the security level to 0, and knockout the Phishing filter, you might eliminate the delay?

I had the same problem once. Try disabling Java plug-In 2 SSV Helper in IE.

full suite i assume... but i dont think its KAV....

no change in hang time whether Inprivate browse or no add-on instances?

I really am not sure what to tell you, as in whats doing this exactly.... this was the final straw to the previous 7 install i had, and since i had a few other issues, i didnt spend alot of time trying to find out why this was happening.... in 7000 i couldnt find where to uninstall/reinstall 8, but now in later builds that option is clearly avail now under additional components...

did you happen to notice exactly when this started ? Since MS did release a few updates last week or so. Sorry not much more help, just trying to throw out a few ideas and maybe turn on a light in the dark.... if i can think of anything i'll drop a line, but... since beta, save your files and reinstall... is my advice.

just to note, i tried every single idea brought up here as well... so far. even going down the line of troubleshooting every add-on/toolbar installed with IE at the time. Am still trying to reproduce the scenario again, installing/trying all programs one lil step at a time... making sure to reboot in between, instead of installing a list of things THEN rebooting.

Another idea, but tried, was sfc, and install repair, startup repair...

How bout when in safe mode w/networking.... loads up fine then?

for me i have found that at first it IE8 does seem so sluggish (i never used it in 7000 hence the slowness which was apperent in IE8) but since at that in 7048 since i have been using IE8 more and more i found that using it more and more lead to a faster startup thorough superfetch (which is the only that can affect the speed at that moment....)
i have also tested this on a 32 7 (on the server/desktop now....:)) which IE 8 is 2x faster than on my laptop (which is and has been running since jan.)

what i can advise is to try IE8 in noaddons mode and check if you see a speed difference...

also are on 64 bit or 32 bit?
another thing is that are you running IE8 64 or 32 (of course if you are running 64bit)?

Other Info
love my wacom pen and pressure sensitivity...
wished it worked in 7, SUSE for that matter though
I'm also using Kaspersky (Windows 7 Beta) and am having the same problem. However, when I shut Kaspersky down, IE8 and all the tabs open just fine. Must be something with KAV.
