Illegal Partition Error when installing from CD/DVD

About a week ago I had the hdd fail on my desktop. I was able to find the "Lenovo Win7 Drivers Pack" and changed boot priorities, allowing me to repair the damage and to get my files off the old hdd before it failed completely.

I bought a new, blank hdd and tried to install Windows 7 from the same CD. The new hdd is recognized, and is second boot priority to the CD drive. When I boot up, I get "illegal partition table" error, followed by some legal information, followed by the date and time. It won't let me install.

This is a first for me. Usually I buy a hdd with the OS pre-installed and just swap around where it's needed: Am I trying to do the impossible here? Is that not the correct CD for installing Windows 7? I read somewhere maybe I need mobo drivers? I do not have a USB to install from or capabilities to make one at the moment (will take a few days).

How large is the new hard-drive? How large was the old hard-drive? By large - I mean how much is the MB or GB count? Reason for asking: If you have UEFI motherboard or if you have BIOS motherboard, how big in GB is new hard-drive, all work together to either format new hard-drive as GPT NTFS or MBR NTFS. Because I will be on and off my computer during the day, others in here can also help you today.
