I'm trying to move my W7 OS to a new W10 laptop; anyone know how?

Thanks for that info. Unfortunately my old laptop came with W7 installed, so the key is an "OEM key" instead of the retail 25-character key. Everyone says you have to have a retail key to download an image of 7, and that you can't do it with an OEM key.
Does that square with your understanding?

Yes. I believe OEM keys are hardware-specific, so you will not be able to use your OEM key to activate Windows 7 on the new laptop. To get a Windows 7 ISO, you can either use the ISO SIW2 suggested, or you can use this tool called Windows ISO Downloader, which will download the ISO straight from Microsoft without having to enter a product key.

Hi

as part of th EULA agreement with MS OEM's a "spare" key MUST be supplied, the original key on the machine, in your case would have ended W8DQG, ALL Toshiba Home Premium computers had this stamped during manufacture.
this key will NOT work on a vanilla OS install as certain required files are not included, (1) upon it to self validate
However the spare key will as its not dedicated to a specific OEM/Make/Model comp

Did you check your battery compartment to check for the Windows 7 Product Key? Here is a photo showing the one in my laptop's battery compartment. This laptop was made in 2010. Note if it is Windows 7 Home or Windows 7 Pro.

If I were you I would backup the Windows 10 currently on the laptop. After that is done try to install Windows 7 on it. After it is installed try the Windows 7 Product Key to see if it will activate. What do you have to lose?

Thanks. I'll check for the key in the batt compartment. I wouldn't mind at all deleting 10 on the new laptop if I could get 7 to work there!
