Hello. I am new to the forum so be gentle. So, I have this laptop that I got a little over 2 years ago that the hard drive is dying in.. It's an Acer Aspire 7535-5020 and the hard drive that is in it is a Hitachi 320GB SATA.. All my computer specifications are on my profile. The hard drive has been ticking for about 2 months now. Once it wouldn't boot properly, I would just format the disk and it would run fine again until the clicks occurred. I plan on buying a new hard drive for it because now it won't even get through the formatting process without a post screen coming up telling me the bootmgr is missing, or that it failed to find the PQSERVICE, which is the hidden recovery partition on the hard drive that Acer puts on rather than supplying a recovery disk.. So what all this leads to is my question. If I am to purchase a new blank hard drive, will I have to buy a new Windows 7 installation or could I activate my current version onto the new blank hard drive somehow with the key I have already?
