Intel to launch speedy 510 series SSDs on March 1?

Looking at this, it looks like the OCZ Vertex 3 Pro will be the better of the 3 so far.

I only have 2 problems with that. The first is that we are looking at benchmarks. In my experience, benchmarks do not necessarily correlate to real world performance. The second problem is price. A 100GB OCZ is estimated to cost $525, a 120GB Intel is at $300. Is there enough of a real world performance increase to justify the price difference?

Good point, cost is still the main concern with SSDs.

The Vertex 3 Pro is enterprise class SSD, the mainstream Vertex 3 is half the price, and a little bit faster.

In my experiences with SSD's if I had to pick one and only one to have for 10 years I would take the Intel. To me the Intel's just seem to run so much smoother.

Sad to say one of my SSD's has the SF controller and it is one of my least favorite. I think SF is growing to fast. Read some of the forum over at the Corsair SSD place. They are all having some major issues. I have never seen a forum that talks about so many problems with a SSD. I am very, very suprised and happy with my Samsung 470. It is a gem to say the least. I just wish my Intel was biger than 80GB, I must have been feeling cheap the day I bought it.

I feel the biggest advantage to SSD's are the insanely low random access times. For running my OS and loading nearly all apps, it doesn't really improve things if it reads at 425MB/sec or 225MB/sec. When it's loading tons of small files, we are talking mere microsecond differences.

You are so correct. Those huge numbers the manufactures use are almost worthless to most of us. Unless you are doing a huge amount of continous reading and writing non stop is where it will benefit you. I always look at the 4K specs myself.
I have an OLD Patriot Warp 64GB SSD that does not even support TRIM. Believe it or not that SSD has the fastest boot times, and all of any other of my faster, newer SSD's. I have used that drive in several different laptops and all different ways comparing it to my others and it is just awesome. I have no idea how it's doing so well without supporting TRIM or what it's doing with the Garbage? It does not even have Garbage Cleaning! Again, I only wish it was bigger or I would use it on my everyday laptop. When I bought it that was when SSD prices were nuts though
