If i open IE8 via start - favourites - all OK

If i open via taskbar icon on lower left screen or via start - I.E.

I get an error box appear

"INTERNET EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING"
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, windows will close the program & notify you if a solution is available.

now if i click the close program button on this error box, I then get the tabs have been recovered and all is OK

tied the reset button with no luck open to any ideas

Try another browser, at least for a test, so we can see where the problem lies. I think that FF would be good for this purpose.

Try thi:

Go to search type turn windows features on or off. Then turn off IE by unticking the box. Then boot the computer, turn IE back on and see what happens.

If that does not work

Go to search type cmd, do not hit enter, right click and run as administrator. In that cmd box type sfc /scannow. If errors are found run it at least 3 times or until the errors are corrected.

Go to Start search and type in Run, bring that up and type in "iexplore.exe -extoff".
If that doesn't work, try booting into safemode with networking (repeatedly tap F8 during startup).

Make note of the next 3 times that it happens, then go to event viewer (via search) and look for common errors.
