Internet Explorer 8 Still the Best at Staying Safe

I really like NoScript. However, I will agree with the critics that it is easy for an inexperienced person to simply click yes and let the script run without checking out what they are allowing..

Hi there
even NO SCRIPT stuff doesn't stop browsers executing code -- how many people switch off plugins -- most people use some type of multi-media capability with their browsers and have document readers such as ability to read PDF, XLS and DOC files.

The danger isn't so much of the web browser itself of executing "bad code" but of the "bogus" or rogue web SITE with ITS design doing the damage. For instance a web site that has enbedded flash multi-media codecs can do all sorts of damage perfectly "legitimately".

A "Hi-jacked" URL might throw up a perfectly legitimate form which the unsuspecting user enters innocuous data -- however the data he is entering isn't going to the web site he thinks its going to. Browser code won't prevent these sorts of attacks and intrusions.

Common sense and basic precautions are whats needed - and if you do a lot of surfing then as I've suggested before use a SEPARATE machine (either REAL OR VIRTUAL) which doesn't contain ANY PERSONAL or IMPORTANT DATA on it for surfing.

Cheers
jimbo
