Is there any software that's good for school work?

Software for School - Syncing 2 computers

Alright, so I recieved this laptop from the university and they kinda want us to use it to research stuff and what not.
Is there any program out there that could like.. hmm
When I save a document on this laptop, it will like send it over to my stationary computer at home or something like that?
I want to be able to send everything over that I do on this laptop to my computer at home.

If my explination is confusing, lmk and I'll try to explain it a bit better

As for transferring data, the simplest way would be to invest in a portable external hard drive.

You could also use your ISP's online data-backup service to upload data from your laptop, and then download the data to your home computer when you get home.

You could also use a sync program to sync the files between the two computers, but you'll need to research that further for methods and cost.

I believe you can also use Microsoft's Live Mesh, but I've never used it so I can't confirm how effective it'll be.

It seems like Windows Live Mesh requires the 2 computers to be within the same network, I mean I'll definitely use this if there's not another program that can send over files to another computer while I'm at school so it's all ready for when I get home.

Not if you opt to use removable media. (See 3rd option.)

Something else you might look into is a remote desktop connection. For example, you can connect to your work computer (school) from your home computer and have access to all of your programs, files, and network resources as though you were in front of your computer at work (school). I haven't tried this so no guarantees. Just throwing things out there for your consideration.

dont forget dropbox, the free account will give you 2Gb of storage you can upload a 2Gb file if you wanted. .and if you can get your friends to sign up via an invite from you ,you will get an extra 250kb for each friend who signs up.
also with dropbox you have a public folder and anything you put in it you get a link (when it finishes uploading) and you can send the link to friends ,so you can share homework hahah

actually i made a mistake ,the extra free space you get from friends signing up is 250Mb not kb sorry.
by recommending people you can get a possible 8GB max.

Live Mesh works accross any network. It can even sync files to your skydrive account. You get 5 GB of storage on SkyDrive sync, additional 25 GB of SkyDrive storage not linked to Live Mesh.

When you sync folders between computers, any changes you make on one computer will be made on the other whenever the computers are online at the same time. The contents of the synced folders are saved on all of the computers, so you can still work on them even when you're not connected to the Internet.

i think there is a file size limit with sky drive and mesh .i think it would be clever to use both mesh and dropbox, covered then. apparently if you have an edu address because you are a student then the free space you can earn with dropbox doubles to 500mb

I stopped using DropBox in favor of Live Mesh, and it works great across three computers. Plus, you get 5 GB, not just 2 GB free.

LiveMesh only works with Windows and Mac....while Dropbox works on Linux too.

LiveMesh gives 5GB of space, but you cannot increase it. with Dropbox, you can pay for 50GB or 100GB.

Dropbox has better sharing and public support...without having to rely on the user having a Windows Live account.

Windows LiveMesh allows remote connections to your computer if you want...dropbox doesn't.

Dropbox installs on devices like phones and tablets. LiveMesh doesn't.

Dropbox has versioning control. It keeps 30 days of your files that you can gain access to in case you accidentally delete something or make a bad edit and save the file.

I some how doubt the OP will need more then 5 GB and will be uploading large files larger then 100 MB.
