Is this a good combo? Free Avg with Bitdefender traffic light plug-in. I am thinking of replacing MSE with free Avg.

So far I tried, free Bit defender version, Free Avg and Free Avast not all at the same time. I am willing to try other free version except cloud Panda. I had some issue with Avast.

What I want are some opinions that is all. Thank you all in advance.

MSE is optimized for ie11 so if you don't use ie11 mse isn't a good choice.

I've been using mse and mbam pro for many years but I'm currently looking for another antivirus and browser because I do not like ie11 and I believe it's beginning to be mandatory to use mse.

I personally prefer ie10 it's by far the best version of ie.

How is Microsoft Security essentials optimized for Ie11? Its a virus and malware protection program in-one its not browser specific.

I believe because mse and Internet explorer are both ms products which would give me that idea,
Otherwise mse is on the bottom of the performance list at blocking new threats,

Internet explorer has many security features most other antivirus programs usually have the same protections and they most likely will clash with each other,

Many people that use ie and say avg/ avast often have issues using ie at one point or another there have been many questions regarding the combos
Cheers.

I used Panda in win-10tp didn't go well but what was I thinking :)
In win-7 I doubt there's any issues and might be my next antivirus to replace mse,
Still thinking of a new browser though looks like evil Chrome :p
I used Chrome before it just works and Firefox is slow in comparison.

You said you had some issues with Avast...what was it..?

There are a lot of free AV's out there but as Borg386 mentioned it will depend on who will share info with you. It will be based on his/her experience.

What are your planned realtime security? What maybe your on-demand security?

Personally I have tried Avast, Avira, AVG and MSE and from the 4 I liked Avast and Avira more. But I very very rarely get an infection(when I used them 4). The last infection I had was way back 2007 and I wasn't good in configuring my AV(Avast Free) at that time. All I did was "install-let the AV do it's job" thing and no proper Windows XP firewall config.

You were asking if AVG would fit well with BD Trafficlight earlier...maybe...I can't say(maybe someone who has tried it may share). AVG has it's own Secure Search..If you are keen on using AVG then you might as well use Secure Search so there will be no conflicts.

Might as well take advantage of the Huawei promotion of AVG also thus you will have the Pro version and not the freeware HERE and HERE

If you are keen on using Trafficlight, why not use Bitdefender IS 2015 or Total Security 2015? There are a lot of promotions out there.

HERE

HERE

HERE

On a separate partition where I have Avast Premier as real-time (no firewall -- I use Outpost Firewall Pro as Avast's cannot block certain application that calls home often silently) I have Avira Browser Safety which I forgot to remove in Chrome(formerly had Avira Free + Comodo firewall with HIPS). It's functioning okay and still warns me of sites that are known malware hubs and the like.

For browser security you may wanna check this out,

https://www.nsslabs.com/reports/categories/test-reports/browser-security

Incidentally what firewall are you using..?

To be safe it will take good common sense, internet habits and proper configuration of the security software of your choice. AND of course experiences may vary(depends on the system and the way you use it). Some might be better off with just MSE + Windows firewall or Avast Free + Windows Firewall or Avira Free + Comodo firewall or Avira Free(Avast Free/Panda Free) + Windows firewall + NVT...etc etc but their experience may vary when you try them out. So it would be better to try it out for yourself and see what happens.

One thing you can do is to make a system image save it in an external drive. So after trying out the combination and you don't like it you can just recover that system image fast and start new again.

Avast just didn't work to well on my computer, I think it was a conflict with another software that I use. I have image restores and backups. I keep a main one, a back up one and I usually keep 3 previous images unless there is an issue. That why I hardly ever ask for help. I would possibly use free bit defender virus if there were more options, you can't do manual updates or disable it.

@DavidE

Panada, I just did not like because it doesn't give you the choice what to do with the files. For example, it deletes tracking cookies from all browser. There might be one I want to keep.
