Hello there,

Sometimes when my connection disconnects, my windows 7 home premium thinks that I'm still connected so I can't reconnect to internet untill I reboot my computer which's pretty annoying.

As you can in the screenshot bellow, the network's tray icon appears as if I was still connected so there's nothing I can do untill I have rebooted :

I'd appreciate any kind of help, thanks.

Hey joules,
I use an ADSL modem connected to my comp by usb.
This happens automatically, I didn't touch any of the parameters.

Any reason why you're not using your ethernet just out of curiosity? May be USB related not necessarily network related. If you can try using your ethernet and see if the same thing happens.

how does ethernet work? I'm not sure if I can use it in my country.
I've never seen someone connecting to internet other than by using an ADSL modem or WIFI over here.
Btw, it looks like the issue is in the OS' side because it shows up as connected even if I remove the modem's USB.

Your DSL modem should have at least one maybe more CAT-5(ethernet) cable ports

While your cable might not be yellow it looks similar to a phone cable just a little wider. My DSL modem has both ethernet and USB. The ethernet should be much faster. You should have your phone line plugged in and ethernet from your modem to your router or pc. All motherboards made within recent years have built in ethernet. Check you I/O panel for your ethernet ports. They will have a green and amber light beneath each one.

Unfortunately there's only an USB port on my modem.
I guess I should get an ethernet modem.
Thanks for the advice man

Wow, I would never think that a company would make one without ethernet. Yeah, I think you'll see a lot better performance from a modem with ethernet. As for your problem there's a couple of ways to go at it if you haven't done so. You need to try to disable your connection and reenable it. You may also try to uninstall the software and reinstall it. My gut feeling is that it's an issue with USB but TBH I am not sure exactly how W7 handles networking via USB as I've never used USB as a network connection.
