First, let me say that this is one of the friendliest and jerk-free forums I belong to, so this is in no way pointed at anyone here. But we've all probably encountered these types elsewhere, and it makes for a humorous read.

4. Mr. Credentials

"As someone who has managed Windows-based systems for 15 years," Mr. Credentials weighs in with a predictable approach. First he encourages everyone to focus on his superior CV, rather than on the objective reasonableness of his views. Then he'll launch into a 500-word essay designed to show just how well-versed he is on the subject at hand (or whatever subject he wants to talk about), overwhelming all resistance with the sheer force and volume of his hot air.
And in case his own credentials might be called into question at some point when he has paused to breathe, Mr. Credentials likes to cite his authorities by the bushel--quoting them at length, and often adding further excerpts detailing his authorities' authorities. In fact, his messages are frequently more heavily weighted toward text from famous figures, user manuals, or Wikipedia entries than toward his own original thoughts or opinions.

I'm a long-time Moderator over at McAfee Security Forums and we get our share, but the nice ones make up for those.

When I used to run my own website my hands were full constantly. It always amazed me how much like badly behaving children grown adults can be.

Oh my gosh! I've seen all of those 'flameware warriors' at PC Pitstop! :roflmao:A lot of "well so and so started it" ... much like a child, defending their right to do what they did. LOL

I have ranted and raved before in the past - but I'd like to think that I am a bit more mature about it now.

The biggest problem is that there are plenty of people like me with an extensive list of credentials - some of them worth a flip and some (like Randall Kennedy) just gasbags.

You have to sift through the rhetoric to actually find the gems sometimes.
